Shop for fresh produce indoors at the Uxbridge Farmers Market

I always miss visiting farmers markets when the change of season rolls around. It’s a great reason to get out of the house and pick up some local produce to whiz up in the blender for baby food. Thankfully, the Uxbridge Farmers Market will be reviving their market one last time before the winter hits with their Indoor Christmas Market, this Sunday, November 23rd.

Take the family on a train ride with Santa

If you’re looking for something to do outdoors with bub this season, you might want to check out the Santa Train this November and December.

Santa will come around to sit with each child, entertain families and distribute small gifts. Each ride lasts for an hour and follows the historic York-Durham railway line. This is great for any of you that like to experience the local history or for those of you that would enjoy the local scenery.

The ride begins and ends at the Uxbridge Heritage Station (19 Railway Street, Uxbridge). All rides take place on weekends in November and December with trains departing at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. A snack bar is available and the train comes equipped with a washroom. Tickets can be pre-ordered online on the York-Durham Heritage Railway website. Some railway cars have been said to be cold so be sure to bring along enough clothes to keep you warm.

Cost:  Infants under 1 not occupying a seat ride for free. Tickets for all other riders are $20 each (incl. tax).

Meet new moms at the Uxbridge Baby Cafe

Baby Cafe is a Monday morning meet up program for moms living in the Uxbridge area who want to connect with other parents.

While it might sound tough getting organized to take baby out of the house on a Monday morning at 9am, it is worth it.  I find it hard to get back into the swing of things after having so much help from my husband on weekends, that I find the time spent at these type of meet ups invaluable for support. As a welcome bonus, a lactation consultant will be present each week to answer questions.

The Uxbridge Baby Cafe program is free and no registration is required. This program continues until December 15th, 2014 and is hosted at the Uxbridge Parent and Literacy Hub, located in the Uxbridge Public School (64 Victoria Drive, Uxbridge). For more information, call 905-862-3131 for details.

Cost: Free.
